BBC News– Embattled Representative George Santos, a Republican from New York, stated that his interaction with House Speaker Mike Johnson,
a Republican from Louisiana, was “positive” when the two politicians spoke after a report from the House Ethics Committee concluded that there is “substantial evidence” that Santos contravened federal criminal laws.
Johnson disclosed to the press on Monday that he had a conversation with Santos during the Thanksgiving break about the many choices available to him, given that the New York Republican may be subject to a third vote of expulsion in Congress this week.
During his time at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, Johnson shared with the reporters that he had a lengthy conversation with Congressman Santos over the holiday break, during which he discussed the many alternatives available to him. However, we don’t know for sure.
There is no decision made regarding this matter at this time; nevertheless, we will discuss it when we return tomorrow.
In the past, Santos has already escaped two efforts to expel him. Nevertheless, in November, the chairman of the House Ethics Committee, Representative Michael Guest, a Republican from Mississippi, submitted a resolution that would expel Santos from the House. This resolution appeared to be gathering support among members who had previously opposed the removal of Santos from the House.
On X, which was formerly known as Twitter, Santos stated that his talk with Johnson was of a positive nature and that he informed Johnson that he would be participating in the vote to expel him.
Santos wrote, “Expel me and set the precedent so that we can see who the judge, jury, and executioners in Congress are,” and he urged Congress to do it. It is the right of the American people to be informed!
Due to the fact that Santos admitted that a significant portion of his personal and professional credentials were faked, he began his first term steeped in scandal. Among the lies that he told was that he was a volleyball star at a college that he never attended. Additionally, he is accused of fraud, for which he is currently facing 23 federal counts.
Santos has stated that he anticipates his first term to be his final one, following a nearly year that has been filled with discoveries, accusations, and obstacles.
“I know I’m going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor,” Santos remarked on Friday morning during an X Spaces, which was formerly known as Twitter Spaces, hosted by Monica Matthews. “I’ve done the math’s over and over, and it doesn’t look really good.”
