The new minimum wage rules were announced by the Federal Government on Thursday. They will start on April 1, 2024.
Idris Mohammed, who is the Minister of Information and National Orientation, said that the current N30,000 minimum wage would end at the end of March 2024.
“Yes, there will be a new set of wages starting April 1, 2024.” That’s why these “palliatives” were chosen: to ease the pain of economic hardship before that could happen, Mohammed said.
“When we talked with Labor, we told them that the wage problem couldn’t be solved easily.” It will be worked on by a group that comes from Labour.
Mohammed also said that the group is being put together and that the Federal Government is talking to Labour about it.
He also said that Nigerian workers should expect a new wage to start in April, when the current pay rate ends at the end of March.
The Minister said that with this wage system, the government will have a good way to pay workers all over the country.
Mohammed told reporters in Abuja, “We expect the private sector and state governors to do the same.”
